Jharkhand JTET Brings Tight Security and Traffic Curbs to Ranchi

Jharkhand JTET candidates will face iris scans, frisking, CCTV-backed monitoring and traffic restrictions in Ranchi and East Singhbhum, where more than 104,000 applicants are scheduled to take the examination on Sunday.

A total of 65,754 candidates are expected at 101 centres in Ranchi, while 39,060 candidates will appear at 93 centres in East Singhbhum. The arrangements place police, magistrates, examination logistics and public transport management under pressure across two of Jharkhand’s busiest urban districts.

In Ranchi, magistrates and police personnel will be deployed at every examination centre. Candidates will be frisked to prevent prohibited items from being taken inside, while iris scans will be used for identity verification, Ranchi SSP Rakesh Ranjan said.

Question papers and answer sheets will be moved between the district administration’s strong room and examination centres under security cover. The distribution and receipt of examination material at the strong room will also be videographed, according to the arrangements reported by the district administration.

Authorities have imposed prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita at all 93 centres in East Singhbhum. In Ranchi, the restrictions will apply within a 200-metre radius of each examination centre. Police will regulate entry, manage crowds and conduct searches around the venues.

In East Singhbhum, 186 magistrates and police personnel have been deployed for the test. Deputy commissioner Rajiv Ranjan and SSP Ehtesham Waqarib have directed officials to ensure the secure and timely transportation and distribution of question papers. Officials have also been instructed to report technical glitches, traffic disruptions and law-and-order incidents to the control room.

The examination is expected to affect movement around railway stations, bus stands and roads serving the centres. Additional traffic arrangements have been made at transport hubs, while heavy vehicle movement has been restricted at different times between 5am and 11pm. Buses have been exempted from the complete restrictions, allowing scheduled public transport to continue while other heavy vehicles face controls.

The restrictions reflect the scale of a citywide examination operation in which candidate movement is concentrated around fixed venues during a limited time window. In addition to managing traffic, the authorities must coordinate secure material movement, entry checks, crowd control and rapid response to operational problems at multiple locations.

Police intensified searches around Ranchi examination centres on Saturday. Hotels and lodges were also searched in Simdega as part of the security preparations. Officials have been directed to monitor social media platforms and take action against people spreading fake information about the examination.

The arrangements will remain tied to the examination schedule, with authorities expected to monitor traffic, technical issues and law-and-order conditions through the designated control rooms during the test.
