The Jharkhand High Court is set to receive a Rs 35-crore data centre on Monday, with Chief Justice of India Justice Surya Kant scheduled to inaugurate the facility alongside new digital services for the high court and subordinate courts.
Justice Ananda Sen, chairperson of the high court’s computer and digitisation committee, said the facility was the first of its kind in Jharkhand and would strengthen the technological foundation of the state’s judicial system. The data centre is designed to support the storage, security and availability of court records and digital services.
The facility will include centralised storage, advanced backup systems, network security, fire protection and uninterrupted power supply. These systems are intended to improve the reliability of the court’s digital infrastructure and protect electronic judicial records from disruption or loss.
The data centre will support the case information system, document management system, electronic judicial records, video conferencing and other e-governance services under the e-Courts Mission Mode project. The services are expected to provide judges, advocates, court officials and litigants with more secure and reliable access to judicial information.
The inauguration will also include the launch of the high court’s new official website, an iOS application for the high court and district courts, and an online portal for obtaining certified copies of court documents and orders. The new digital services are intended to reduce dependence on physical access for routine case-related information and document requests.
Justice Sen said the digitisation initiative would include a personalised cause list for advocates and litigants. “The system will make it convenient for lawyers and litigants to track their cases at the touch of a screen on their phones or other devices,” he said.
The proposed services are particularly relevant to people who need to monitor case listings, access orders or obtain certified copies without repeatedly visiting court premises. Bar Council member and advocate Nilesh Agarwal said the data centre would help people seeking legal remedies access reliable information, improve transparency and secure speedy justice.
A senior judicial officer said Justice Surya Kant would also oversee the distribution of a speech-to-text tool and artificial intelligence software to judicial officers across the state. According to the official, the tools are expected to help judicial officers discharge their duties more efficiently.
The project places court digitisation within the broader e-Courts framework, where the quality of public-facing services depends not only on software but also on the reliability, security and continuity of the underlying infrastructure. The new facility’s backup, power, fire-protection and network-security systems are therefore intended to support the regular operation of the court’s digital platforms.
The high court’s new website, mobile application and certified-copies portal are scheduled to be launched at the inauguration function, while the data centre will support digital services for the high court and subordinate courts across Jharkhand.
