Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) has advanced plans for three major traffic infrastructure projects this financial year, with work orders and tenders being prepared for the Rajmahal Palace underpass, the Gopalpura underpass and a proposed signal-free corridor on JLN Marg.
The Rajmahal Palace underpass on Sardar Patel Marg is expected to move towards execution in November, while the Gopalpura underpass is targeted to begin in February 2027. JDA is also fast-tracking the process for the JLN Marg corridor and aims to initiate the project during the current financial year.
The Projects Work Committee sanctioned funds for the Gopalpura underpass on Thursday, allowing the authority to begin tender-related work. A senior JDA official said the tender for the project would be initiated next, with the work order expected to be issued by early January. The tender for the Sardar Patel Marg project is ready, and the authority expects to issue its work order in November.
Both underpass projects are expected to be taken up simultaneously and could continue for eight to 12 months, according to the official. The projects are being planned as traffic volumes rise around important road and rail-over-bridge links in the city.
The Gopalpura Bypass Road is expected to experience higher vehicle pressure after the proposed elevated road connecting Gopalpura Railway Over Bridge with Gurjar Ki Thadi is built. JDA officials said the underpass would be important for managing the additional traffic expected on the bypass.
Sardar Patel Marg, meanwhile, is expected to face increased pressure once the Civil Lines Railway Over Bridge becomes operational. JDA aims to open the Civil Lines RoB by the end of this year, while the Gopalpura RoB could take nearly 30 months to complete. The planned underpass at Rajmahal Palace is therefore being advanced alongside the broader changes planned for the corridor.
For JLN Marg, JDA has appointed a consultancy to prepare a feasibility report for the signal-free corridor. The plan was designed by the School of Planning and Architecture under the Ministry of Education, with members of the Indian Roads Congress involved in the process, officials said.
The feasibility report is expected by early January. After reviewing it, JDA plans to seek funds and float the tender for the corridor. A JDA official said the authority was aiming to initiate the project within the current financial year.
The three projects are at different stages: funding for the Gopalpura underpass has been sanctioned, the Sardar Patel Marg tender is ready, and the JLN Marg proposal remains dependent on the feasibility report and subsequent funding approval. The immediate milestones are the expected November work order for Sardar Patel Marg, the January tender and work-order activity for Gopalpura, and the feasibility report for JLN Marg.
