Jaipur Civil Lines RoB Breach Exposes Dangerous Security Gap

A car was reportedly driven onto the edge of the unfinished Civil Lines Road overbridge in Jaipur after occupants allegedly forced their way through the restricted construction area early Tuesday, prompting the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) to order tighter security at the site.

The incident came to light after a photograph showing the vehicle near the edge of the under-construction RoB circulated widely. According to a worker quoted by the Times of India, the occupants were allegedly intoxicated and entered the ramp from Jamnalal Bajaj Marg after removing a barricade.

“They threatened the security guard, removed the barricade and drove up the RoB. The guard fled in fear and returned only after contractor staff arrived in the morning. No one knows what happened to the vehicle after that,” the worker said.

The report did not identify the occupants or establish what happened to the vehicle after it reached the structure. It also said that no police complaint had been filed at the time of publication. The account of the breach is based on the worker’s statement and the reported photograph.

The incident has drawn attention to the risks around unfinished transport infrastructure, where elevated ramps and construction approaches may be accessible before they are opened for public use. Such sites typically depend on barricades, guards and controlled entry to keep vehicles and pedestrians away from incomplete structures and work areas. In this case, the reported removal of a barricade and intimidation of the guard allowed access to the restricted ramp.

The Civil Lines RoB is still under construction, and the reported entry occurred before the facility had been formally opened for traffic. The incident therefore involved an unauthorised movement onto a work site rather than normal road use. The photograph showing the car at the edge of the structure has nevertheless raised questions about whether physical barriers and night-time monitoring were adequate.

The JDA has ordered stricter access control and tighter vigilance at the construction site to prevent a similar breach. The action is expected to focus on securing the approaches and monitoring entry during periods when construction activity is not underway.

No further official details about the vehicle, the occupants, possible damage to the structure or police action were available in the supplied report. The next steps will depend on whether a formal complaint is filed and whether the JDA or the contractor conducts an assessment of the site after the reported intrusion.
