IMD rain alert conditions are expected across several parts of India from Thursday, September 10, with very heavy rainfall forecast at isolated places in Odisha and heavy showers, thunderstorms and lightning likely in multiple states.
The India Meteorological Department has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places over Odisha on Thursday. Heavy rain is also likely in Assam, Meghalaya, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Kerala, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura and Uttarakhand.
The weather department has also warned of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal. Parts of Bihar, Jharkhand, south interior Karnataka, Telangana, West Bengal and Sikkim may also experience thunderstorms with gusty winds.
In North India, Uttarakhand is likely to receive heavy rainfall on Thursday, with widespread rain expected to continue through the weekend. Himachal Pradesh is also forecast to see rainfall, with more widespread activity expected later in the week. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are possible over Uttarakhand.
Chhattisgarh and east Madhya Pradesh are likely to receive widespread rainfall through the weekend, while thunderstorms are possible over both states on Thursday. Odisha, Bihar and Jharkhand are also expected to remain active weather zones, with rain, lightning and gusty winds forecast in parts of the region.
The Northeast remains under a broad rain watch. Assam and Meghalaya are likely to receive heavy rain on Thursday, while Arunachal Pradesh may see thunderstorms and lightning. Heavy rain is also possible in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura, with widespread rainfall expected across Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya through the weekend.
In western India, Konkan and Goa are likely to continue receiving widespread rainfall over the coming days. Gujarat may also receive rain, including heavy showers in parts of the region later in the week. In the south, Kerala is forecast to receive heavy rain on Thursday, with widespread rainfall continuing through the weekend. Thunderstorms and gusty winds are possible over Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, while parts of Karnataka and Telangana may see thunderstorms and lightning.
The IMD has forecast continued active rainfall across several parts of the country through the weekend. Widespread rainfall is expected over Himachal Pradesh from Friday and west Madhya Pradesh from Saturday, while heavy rain may continue over Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand and parts of the Northeast.
