HYDRAA Disaster Response Force teams cleared waterlogging, choked drains and fallen trees across Hyderabad after heavy rain disrupted several locations during Tuesday evening’s office closing hours, the agency said in a press statement.
Around one foot of water accumulated at the Secunderabad Clock Tower RUB underpass, a low-lying location that the statement identified as having inadequate stormwater drainage. HYDRAA teams used 25-horsepower motors to remove the water, allowing traffic through the underpass to continue without disruption.
The agency said its control room received complaints of fallen trees at nine locations and water stagnation at four places at around 7 pm. Teams responded to all the reported obstructions, clearing the trees and removing accumulated water from the affected areas.
HYDRAA said station fire officers, Disaster Response Force personnel and its MET teams had been placed on alert before responding to the rain-related incidents. The deployment covered flood-prone areas and included precautionary measures to manage water accumulation and other hazards during the rainfall.
HYDRAA Commissioner AV Ranganath inspected several locations and supervised the removal of stagnant water beneath the Secunderabad Clock Tower bridge. Additional Director Varla Papaiah and divisional forest officers also took part in the inspections and response operations.
The incident again placed attention on the vulnerability of low-lying transport points during intense rainfall. In the latest operation, the Secunderabad underpass required high-capacity pumping equipment to remove the accumulated water, while separate teams handled fallen trees and choked drains reported across the city.
HYDRAA’s response teams completed the clearance of the reported obstructions and waterlogged locations, according to the agency’s statement. Officials continued inspections in affected areas after the evening rainfall.
