HYDERABAD | September 9, 2026 — Hyderabad’s Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) has given hostel operators three months to move residents from unsafe buildings to structurally sound premises with the required safety permits, according to a report by Deccan Chronicle.
HYDRAA commissioner A.V. Ranganath issued the warning during a meeting with hostel operators and owners of buildings leased for hostel use. He said inspections would begin on January 1 and warned that hostels operating from unsafe buildings could face demolition.
Ranganath said there would be no compromise on the safety of hostel residents. The agency’s stated focus is on buildings used for hostel operations that do not meet structural-safety requirements or lack the necessary permits.
The warning follows a series of recent building-related incidents cited in the report. These include the collapse of an under-construction building at Anjaiahnagar in Gachibowli, which resulted in two deaths and damage to adjoining structures. The report also refers to the collapse of a hostel building in Delhi on September 6.
The three-month period gives hostel operators time to shift operations to buildings described as structurally sound and compliant with safety-permit requirements before the inspection drive begins. The report does not specify how many hostels or buildings will be covered, nor does it provide details of the inspection process or the standards HYDRAA will apply.
