Telangana employees’ and teachers’ unions have deferred their proposed Chalo Hyderabad rally after the state government gave written assurances on long-pending demands, including the constitution of a new Pay Revision Commission, payment of Dearness Allowance dues and other financial benefits.
Hyderabad | September 9, 2026 — The decision followed a meeting between Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju and representatives of the Telangana Employees Joint Action Committee at the state Secretariat. The unions said the government had agreed to hold further discussions on September 18.
The demands raised by the Telangana Employees Joint Action Committee include the release of about Rs 10,000 crore in pending financial benefits for employees and pensioners, withdrawal of the Contributory Pension Scheme and restoration of the Old Pension Scheme. The unions have also sought effective implementation of the new health insurance scheme for employees, teachers, pensioners and their families.
TGEJAC leaders V. Lachi Reddy and Maram Jagadeeshwar said the decision to defer the agitation was taken after the Chief Secretary provided a written assurance on addressing the employees’ demands. They said the government had assured them that steps would be taken to ensure that the Pay Revision Commission submits its report to the Chief Secretary by September 18.
The unions described the proposed timeline as an important development for employees and teachers who have been waiting for wage revision. They had previously undertaken a statewide campaign to mobilise employees, saying the delay in resolving their demands had generated considerable resentment among members.
The pension issue is also part of the discussions. According to the report, the government discussed constituting a committee to conduct a comprehensive study within three months on the feasibility of replacing the contributory pension system with the Old Pension Scheme. The proposed committee is expected to include Pay Revision Commission experts, senior officials and representatives of employee organisations.
The Telangana State Contributory Pension Scheme Employees Union welcomed the proposal to establish the committee. Its president, G. Sthitaprajna, said the Congress had promised to scrap the Contributory Pension Scheme in its election manifesto released on November 17, 2023. He urged the government to complete the committee’s exercise and issue clear orders restoring the Old Pension Scheme by November 17.
The unions said they would review the government’s progress at the September 18 discussions. If they did not receive a positive decision, the TGEJAC would hold an emergency meeting on September 19 and announce its next course of action.
