Hyderabad took a remarkable step towards a more sustainable future in urban transportation the nation’s first solar roof cycling track was recently inaugurated. This facility, known as Healthway, is located on the Outer Ring Road (ORR) and set to operate round the clock.
This cycling track is not only a sustainable project but also a means of inspiring the younger generation to embrace cycling and an active lifestyle to prevent lifestyle-related illnesses in the future. The track will also feature sports facilities such as skating ramps and tennis courts.
The cycling track stretches 23 km and consists of two sections: a pink line of 8.5 km from Nanakramguda to the Telangana State Police Academy and a blue line of 14.5 km from Kollur to Narsingi. These two lines converge at Narsingi Junction, offering access at five different points. The track boasts three lanes and a width of 4.5 meters, with one meter of green space on either side.
The track is equipped with ample parking space, surveillance cameras, food courts, drinking water facilities, first-aid stations and restrooms. Notably, the solar roof panels above the cycling track will provide protection from sun, rain and other weather conditions.
An impressive total of 16,000 solar panels were installed in a record time of just 18 days. This solar infrastructure is expected to generate 16 mw of power, illuminating the track at night.
