Hyderabad residents are eagerly anticipating the completion of the New Musi River Link Road, a transformative infrastructure project poised to significantly reduce traffic congestion and enhance connectivity within the city. Scheduled for completion by August 2024, this initiative is set to revolutionise the daily commute for thousands of individuals.
The New Musi River Link Road will provide a direct connection between Amberpet, Uppal, and Ramanthapur, drastically shortening the current travel distance from eight kilometres to just 3.5 kilometres. This reduction is expected to greatly improve the efficiency and convenience of daily commutes.
The project encompasses the construction of 14 bridges and a crucial link road across the Musi and Esa rivers. The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) will oversee the construction of six bridges and the link road, while the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is responsible for building four bridges. Additionally, the Hyderabad Road Development Corporation (HRDCL) will construct high-level bridges at essential missing link corridors, including corridor number 99 on the Musi River, connecting Sun City and Chintalmet on the Esa River, and linking Inner Ring Road and Kismathpur Road.
A key feature of the new link road is a one-kilometre, three-lane stretch constructed by HRDCL, complemented by a two-kilometre, two-lane existing road that will be widened by the GHMC’s projects wing. According to a GHMC official, only 0.5 kilometres of road widening remains, with utility shifting currently underway. This collaborative effort between HRDCL and GHMC highlights the city’s commitment to enhancing its transportation infrastructure.
Local residents, particularly those near the Moosarambagh RTO office, are enthusiastic about the new road. Rao, a resident, expressed his excitement: “Currently, we use the main road to reach Uppal from Amberpet, which is often crowded and plagued by traffic snarls at multiple junctions. The new road will make the commute hassle-free and save us valuable time.”
The road, beginning near Ali Café in Amberpet, is expected to significantly alleviate traffic congestion in several key areas. By offering a new route for commuters travelling from the Moosarambagh-Malakpet side towards Uppal, Ramanthapur, and surrounding regions, the project will vastly improve the daily commuting experience. This initiative is not merely about reducing travel time; it is about creating a more efficient and convenient transportation network for the city’s residents.
In addition to easing traffic congestion, the New Musi River Link Road will enhance connectivity between major neighbourhoods in Hyderabad. The improved road network will facilitate smoother and faster travel, encouraging more people to use this route and thereby reducing the burden on existing roads.
This project forms part of a broader strategy to develop the city’s infrastructure and improve the quality of life for its residents. With the construction of 14 bridges and the new link road, Hyderabad’s transportation system will be better equipped to handle the increasing demands of its population.
As the countdown to the road’s completion begins, residents eagerly anticipate the convenience and time-saving benefits that the New Musi River Link Road will bring to their daily commutes. The project’s completion will mark a significant milestone in Hyderabad’s journey towards establishing a world-class transportation network.
The New Musi River Link Road is poised to revolutionise commuting in Hyderabad. By connecting Amberpet to Uppal and Ramanthapur and reducing the travel distance to just 3.5 kilometres, this project promises a faster, safer, and more convenient travel option for residents. The combined efforts of HRDCL, GHMC, and HMDA demonstrate a strong commitment to enhancing the city’s infrastructure and improving the overall quality of life for its populace. As the project nears completion, the anticipation among residents continues to build, heralding a new era of improved connectivity and transportation efficiency in Hyderabad.
