Heavy rain has submerged the underpass near Bible House in Secunderabad, bringing traffic to a halt and disrupting a key connection between Secunderabad, Tank Bund and other parts of Hyderabad.
Rain has continued since Monday night, turning the low-lying passage near the railway bridge junction into an impassable stretch of water. Vehicular movement in the area slowed substantially as commuters were advised to use alternative routes.
The waterlogging also caused inconvenience to people travelling to Ganesh pandals in the area. The underpass is used by traffic moving between Secunderabad and Tank Bund, making the disruption significant for commuters heading towards central parts of Hyderabad.
Teams from the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency, or HYDRAA, were deployed to clear the stagnant water. Their operations were affected by continuing rainfall, which hampered efforts to drain the passage and restore movement.
The incident has again brought traffic through a low-lying urban passage to a standstill during intense rain. The report did not provide details of any injuries, vehicle damage or the volume of water accumulated at the site.
Authorities urged commuters to avoid the submerged passage and take alternative routes while clearance operations continued. Traffic movement is expected to remain affected until the stagnant water is removed and the underpass is safe for vehicles.
