Hyderabad underpass flooding near Bible House in Secunderabad brought traffic to a halt after heavy rain submerged the passage and disrupted movement towards Tank Bund and other parts of the city. The waterlogging also affected people travelling to Ganesh pandals in the area.
Heavy rain had continued since Monday night, turning the underpass near the railway bridge junction into an impassable stretch, according to Telangana Today. The passage is an important link between Secunderabad, Tank Bund and other parts of Hyderabad, making the flooding a direct disruption to cross-city movement.
The accumulation of rainwater slowed vehicular movement substantially around the junction. Authorities urged commuters to use alternative routes while efforts were made to remove the stagnant water from the underpass.
Disaster Response Force teams from the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency, known as HYDRAA, were deployed to the location. The teams began working to clear the water, but continuing rainfall hampered the operation and prevented the passage from being restored quickly.
The flooding also created difficulties for people visiting Ganesh pandals in and around the area. With the underpass submerged, movement through the low-lying passage was disrupted and vehicles were unable to use the route normally.
The incident highlights the operational vulnerability of low-lying urban road links during intense rainfall. In this case, the disruption was concentrated at a single underpass, but its location on a connection between Secunderabad and Tank Bund extended the impact to commuters travelling between the two parts of the city.
The report did not provide details of the water depth, the number of vehicles affected, the drainage capacity at the site or the expected time for the route to reopen. It also did not specify whether any vehicles or commuters required rescue assistance.
HYDRAA DRF teams were continuing efforts to clear the stagnant water as rain persisted. Commuters were advised to take alternative routes until the underpass became usable again.
