A key road improvement project approved nearly a year ago remains stalled, leaving commuters, public transport users and local residents navigating deteriorated road conditions on one of western Hyderabad’s busy traffic corridors.
The Shaikpet road project, estimated at around ₹45 lakh, was cleared as part of a wider package of local infrastructure upgrades. However, construction has yet to begin despite the road serving as a major link connecting residential neighbourhoods including Manikonda and Puppalguda with Film Nagar, Jubilee Hills and adjoining commercial areas. Municipal officials have indicated that execution of the Shaikpet road project is linked to technical clearances involving underground water infrastructure. The affected stretch reportedly lies above a major gravity-fed raw water conduit that transports water towards the city’s treatment facilities. Any permanent construction requires coordination between civic engineering agencies and the water utility to ensure that essential infrastructure remains protected.
