The Khairatabad zone of Hyderabad City Police has trained one woman constable from each police station in motorcycle riding and deployed them for regular field patrolling, marking an operational expansion of women’s role in frontline policing.
DCP Khairatabad K Shilpa Valli said the initiative was intended to ensure that women police personnel participate more actively in operational duties instead of being concentrated mainly in reception, writing and other station-based responsibilities.
“Women police personnel should be equally visible and actively involved in frontline policing,” Shilpa Valli said, according to Telangana Today.
The trained constables will join regular patrol operations across the zone. The police said the arrangement would improve the use of available personnel, expand the operational responsibilities assigned to women constables and provide greater flexibility in field deployment.
The move also has a public-access dimension. The presence of women police personnel on the streets is expected to make it easier for women in the community to approach the police, particularly those who may feel more comfortable seeking assistance from women officers.
Shilpa Valli said greater visibility of women personnel in patrol teams could encourage more women to approach the police directly and seek help. She added that the initiative was aimed at building public confidence and strengthening engagement between the police and the community.
The Khairatabad zone described the change as a small operational step with a wider institutional purpose: placing more women in visible field roles while making better use of the police force. The report did not specify the number of police stations covered, the patrol routes or whether the programme would be expanded beyond the zone.
