Hyderabad POCSO Case: Eight Booked After Alleged Assault of Teen

Alwal police in Hyderabad have registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act against eight persons following a complaint alleging the sexual assault of a 16-year-old girl at multiple locations.

According to the police account reported by Telangana Today, the girl is an Intermediate student and had become acquainted with one of the accused while studying in Class X. The complaint alleged that she was intoxicated and sexually assaulted. It also alleged that another person introduced through him encouraged her use of alcohol, cigarettes and narcotics before sexually assaulting her.

The girl was also allegedly harassed by another person who had become acquainted with her through Instagram, the report said. The allegations describe separate encounters involving people known to the girl through personal and online contacts.

After family members questioned her behaviour on September 9, she reportedly left home. Police said that while she was near Bolarum railway station, some persons allegedly approached her, intoxicated her and sexually assaulted her.

The complaint further alleged that other persons subsequently took the girl to different locations and assaulted her. She later escaped and returned home, where she reportedly narrated the incident to her family.

Based on the family’s complaint, Alwal police registered the POCSO case against eight persons. The identities of the minor and other details that could reveal her identity have not been published in accordance with child-protection requirements.

Police are investigating the allegations and working to identify all those involved. Further action will depend on the investigation into the complaint and the evidence collected by the authorities.
