Hyderabad Neredmet Station Upgrade Gains Community Support
Residents in Hyderabad’s north-eastern suburbs are pressing for infrastructure improvements at Neredmet Railway Station, urging railway authorities to extend existing platforms so the station can accommodate 24-coach express trains. Community groups argue that the proposed upgrade would improve regional rail accessibility, strengthen suburban connectivity and make better use of ongoing infrastructure works in the area.
The demand has been formally placed before South Central Railway as part of broader efforts to improve passenger convenience in the rapidly growing Malkajgiri region. According to local rail users, the present platform length restricts the station’s ability to serve longer express services despite increasing commuter demand from surrounding residential neighbourhoods. Supporters of the proposal believe a Neredmet Railway Station platform extension would enable more long-distance trains operating on the Charlapalli–Lingampalli corridor to halt at the station. Such a move could reduce dependence on larger, often congested railway hubs while providing easier access for thousands of daily passengers travelling for work, education and other essential purposes. Alongside the platform proposal, commuter organisations have recommended that the station upgrade be coordinated with the planned construction of a Road Under Bridge (RUB) near the station. They argue that synchronising both projects would minimise repeated civil works, reduce construction-related disruption and improve the efficient use of public funds.
Rail user representatives have also suggested that excavated earth generated during the RUB construction be retained for future platform development instead of being transported away. Infrastructure experts note that reusing suitable construction material where technically feasible can lower project costs, reduce waste generation and support more sustainable infrastructure delivery. Transport planners say integrated project execution is increasingly important in expanding metropolitan regions such as Hyderabad, where rail stations, roads and public transport systems must evolve together to meet growing travel demand. Coordinating investments across multiple transport projects can improve construction efficiency while reducing inconvenience for surrounding communities.
