Hyderabad Metro Begins Station Modernisation Initiative
Hyderabad: Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) has launched a pilot initiative to modernise 10 metro stations, signalling a shift towards passenger-focused transit infrastructure that prioritises accessibility, convenience and efficient use of public spaces. The programme is expected to serve as a model for future upgrades across the city’s metro network.
The Hyderabad Metro station upgrade project follows inspections by HMRL’s Additional Managing Director at key stations, including Begumpet, Ameerpet and Raidurg, where officials reviewed passenger facilities, platform operations, concourse areas and street-level infrastructure. Station-specific development plans have been directed to address operational gaps and improve the overall commuter experience. The pilot will focus on improving passenger amenities, accessibility, crowd movement and the efficient use of available space. Officials are also examining better utilisation of parking areas and station surroundings to strengthen last-mile connectivity and make metro travel more convenient for daily commuters. Urban mobility experts say that enhancing existing stations is as important as expanding metro corridors. Modern, well-designed stations can improve passenger comfort, reduce congestion and encourage greater use of public transport. Such improvements also support the city’s long-term goals of reducing traffic congestion, lowering transport-related emissions and creating more sustainable mobility options.
