Hyderabad: Traffic movement around KBR Park is set for a major change from August 18, with a one-way system planned around the popular green space. Before implementation, traffic officials have begun engaging with regular walkers and commuters. The move highlights a wider challenge for Hyderabad: managing road capacity and construction-related disruption while keeping access, safety and public use of valuable urban green space intact. Traffic officials held a public interaction with KBR Park walkers on Friday to explain the upcoming arrangement. The exercise also created a channel for residents to raise concerns and suggest practical changes before the system takes effect. Under the proposed arrangement, motorists will be expected to use designated parking areas and the nearby multilevel parking facility. Police have also cautioned against driving against the permitted traffic flow, particularly during busy morning periods. The KBR Park traffic plan comes as the surrounding road network faces continuing pressure. Earlier trials of one-way movement were linked to the need to manage congestion and support infrastructure work in the Jubilee Hills and Banjara Hills corridor.
For daily commuters, the change could improve traffic circulation if lane discipline is maintained. However, a one-way system can also increase travel distances for some local trips. Its effectiveness will therefore depend on clear signage, predictable junction management and enforcement. The parking component is equally important. Unregulated roadside parking can reduce usable carriageway space and create conflicts between vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists. Directing vehicles towards organised parking could help free road space, provided those facilities are convenient and adequately managed. The authorities are also seeking feedback from people who use the park regularly. A QR-based mechanism is planned near the park so citizens can submit suggestions.
