Hyderabad KBR Park Traffic Changes Begin August 18
Hyderabad will introduce a new traffic arrangement around KBR Park from August 18 as infrastructure work narrows road capacity in the area. The one-way system is intended to keep vehicles moving around an important urban corridor while construction under the H-CITI programme continues. The change will affect daily commuters, park visitors and nearby residents.
The revised system comes as flyover and underpass construction alters existing traffic conditions around the park. Instead of allowing unrestricted two-way movement, vehicles will follow designated one-way stretches. The arrangement is expected to remain for around one-and-a-half to two years, broadly matching the anticipated period of disruption from the works. For commuters, the immediate impact will be a change in familiar routes. Drivers who regularly use roads around Jubilee Hills and Banjara Hills will need to account for longer approaches and revised movements. The traffic police have also urged motorists to follow signs and avoid travelling against the prescribed direction. Authorities are preparing several measures before the system becomes operational. New lane markings and traffic signs will be installed at key points. Traffic personnel will also be deployed continuously at critical locations. Digital navigation routes are expected to be updated so commuters can identify revised paths before starting their journeys.
The administration is also relying on technology to monitor the arrangement. CCTV feeds linked to the city’s command centre will be used to assess traffic conditions. Drone-based observation is planned at suitable locations to provide additional information on congestion and vehicle movement. The decision follows two trial exercises conducted earlier this year. These tests were used to study traffic flow, lane discipline and congestion points. Officials subsequently adjusted the proposed arrangement based on observations from those exercises. The move has a wider urban planning significance. Temporary traffic restrictions are increasingly becoming part of Hyderabad’s infrastructure expansion as major projects compete for limited road space. The success of the KBR Park system will depend not only on vehicle movement but also on how effectively pedestrian access, emergency movement and local connectivity are maintained.
KBR Park also attracts regular walkers and visitors during morning and evening hours. Authorities have asked them to use designated parking areas and follow the revised movement pattern. Keeping access predictable will be important for residents and visitors as construction activity continues. For the city, the coming months will provide a practical test of whether traffic management can reduce disruption while infrastructure projects progress. Continuous monitoring and timely adjustments will be important to prevent congestion from shifting to surrounding roads.
