Hyderabad Infrastructure Bodies Get New Senior Officials
HYDERABAD: Telangana has ordered a set of senior-level administrative changes across agencies responsible for Hyderabad’s metropolitan planning, growth corridors, land acquisition and public transport infrastructure. The appointments affect the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority, Hyderabad Growth Corridor Limited and Hyderabad Metro Rail, bringing new leadership to positions that influence major urban infrastructure projects.
R Upender Reddy has been appointed managing director of Hyderabad Growth Corridor Limited, while Parama Jyoti has been posted as engineering-in-chief of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority. Jyoti will also continue in her existing role as chief general manager at HGCL. K Chandrakala, associated with the GHMC Shamshabad zone and serving as joint metropolitan commissioner at HMDA for the core urban region, land pooling and Metro Rail, has additionally been assigned responsibility as special collector for land acquisition at HGCL. The changes come at a significant stage for Hyderabad’s infrastructure expansion. The metropolitan region is simultaneously dealing with road capacity, public transport demand, land development and the need to coordinate infrastructure with rapid urban growth. Senior engineering and land administration posts therefore carry implications beyond routine departmental functioning.
At HGCL, land acquisition and growth-corridor responsibilities are closely linked to the development of strategic road infrastructure. Effective coordination between land records, acquisition processes and engineering teams can influence project timelines and the release of land required for public infrastructure. At HMDA, the engineering leadership role covers a wider metropolitan planning environment. Infrastructure decisions increasingly need to account for drainage, mobility, land use and climate resilience rather than treating individual projects in isolation. Hyderabad’s expansion into peripheral areas has made such coordination more important as new development increases demand for public services. There has also been a change at Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited. Y Sayappa Reddy, previously chief engineer at HMRL, has been appointed engineer-in-chief in the public health department. S Bhasker Reddy, who held the public health engineering-in-chief position, has been transferred to HMRL as chief engineer.
The movement of senior engineering officials between infrastructure departments highlights the interconnected nature of Hyderabad’s urban systems. Transport networks, public health infrastructure, land development and metropolitan roads increasingly operate as parts of the same urban framework. For the city, the immediate question will be how quickly the new appointments translate into coordinated execution. As Hyderabad continues to expand, institutional capacity will be as important as capital investment in ensuring that infrastructure keeps pace with population growth while remaining accessible, resilient and efficient.
