Several prominent Hyderabad residents, including former India cricketer VVS Laxman, filmmaker SS Rajamouli and actor Mahesh Babu, have been issued notices during the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, according to a list published after the draft rolls were released on August 17, 2026.
The list includes sportspersons Pullela Gopichand, Saina Nehwal and Mithali Raj; actors Namrata Shirodkar, Venkatesh Daggubati, Samantha Akkineni and Vijay Deverakonda; and other public figures, including entrepreneur Upasana Konidela. Venkatesh’s two daughters and Vijay Deverakonda’s brother Anand are also named in the list, according to the report.
The notices cite discrepancies including name mismatches, parent-name mismatches and voters being “unmapped with last SIR”. In some cases, the column listing the reason for the discrepancy is blank.
The list, titled “List of Persons to Whom Notices Have Been Issued (After Draft Roll Published on 17-08-2026)”, was highlighted on X, after which the Times of India said it independently checked the entries. The notices form part of the electoral-roll revision process covering voters registered in constituencies under the Hyderabad district election administration.
RV Karnan, district election officer for Hyderabad, said people who are unavailable can authorise someone to appear at the hearing on their behalf, particularly in the case of prominent voters. He added that there was still time for many of those issued notices to attend the hearings.
Election officials said the inclusion of well-known personalities was not unusual because discrepancies had been identified in the records of lakhs of voters across Telangana. Receiving a notice does not by itself mean that a person has been removed from the electoral roll; it requires the voter or an authorised representative to respond through the prescribed process.
The development has also drawn attention to how electoral-roll verification may affect voters who have fewer resources to respond to official notices. Activist Ruchith Asha Kamal questioned who would assist vulnerable voters, including women living alone in remote rural settlements, if their names were at risk of deletion.
The hearings and responses to the notices will determine how the affected entries are handled before the revision process is completed. The Election Commission’s final decisions on the disputed records were not specified in the report.
