More than one lakh Ganesh idols have been immersed across Hyderabad, while the remaining processions are expected to conclude by Saturday afternoon amid traffic restrictions on several major roads, Hyderabad City Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar said.
The immersion process was still under way on Saturday morning, with long queues of vehicles carrying idols reported along the Mozamjahi Market streets. Major procession routes, including Mozamjahi Market, Charminar and Telangana Talli Flyover, saw steady movement from Friday morning as devotees travelled towards designated immersion points.
A total of 1.24 lakh Ganesh idols were registered across Telangana in 2026. The overall number of idols worshipped during the festival is substantially higher, with nearly four lakh idols estimated to have been installed across the state, including at homes, apartment complexes and gated communities.
Sajjanar said the Ganesh Nimajjanam Shobhayatra in Hyderabad had proceeded peacefully since Friday, crediting public cooperation with helping the police prevent untoward incidents. He appealed to citizens to continue following police and traffic advisories while the remaining processions and immersions were completed.
Large gatherings of devotees at Tank Bund, NTR Marg, Necklace Road, Liberty, Moazzam Jahi Market and other areas slowed traffic at several locations and contributed to delays in the immersion process. Police and traffic personnel were continuing to manage movement and facilitate the remaining processions as the event entered its final phase.
Normal vehicular movement was not being permitted on roads around Tank Bund, Necklace Road, NTR Marg, PV Statue and Indira Gandhi Rotary because of the volume of idols and devotees in the area, the commissioner said. Motorists were advised to avoid these routes unless essential, postpone journeys where possible and use alternative roads.
Sajjanar also asked citizens not to venture onto the affected roads unnecessarily and to follow instructions issued by the police and traffic departments. Traffic restrictions on major roads along the Shobhayatra routes will continue until the immersion process is completed, which is expected by Saturday afternoon.
