Hyderabad: Hyderabad is set to strengthen its domestic aviation network as Air India Express expands operations by introducing a new direct service to Tirupati from 1 September 2026. The new route forms part of the airline’s broader domestic network expansion and is expected to improve connectivity for pilgrims, business travellers and leisure passengers.
Under the expansion plan, the airline will launch services to six new domestic destinations, with Hyderabad becoming one of the key metro gateways supporting the enlarged network. The Hyderabad–Tirupati route is expected to enhance access between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh while offering travellers an additional travel option on one of the region’s important religious and economic corridors. The latest announcement increases Air India Express’ overall network to 64 destinations, including 48 domestic and 16 international locations. Aviation experts say strengthening metro-to-regional connectivity is becoming increasingly important as demand grows for faster, more efficient travel between emerging cities and major economic centres.
For Hyderabad, the new service further reinforces the city’s role as a strategic aviation hub in southern India. Improved regional air links support not only passenger mobility but also business travel, tourism and wider economic integration across neighbouring states. Better connectivity also complements Hyderabad’s expanding technology, healthcare and manufacturing sectors by reducing travel time for professionals and investors. The expansion comes as India’s domestic aviation market continues to witness sustained growth driven by rising passenger demand, improved airport infrastructure and increasing regional connectivity. Airlines are responding by adding new destinations and increasing flight frequencies to serve both metropolitan centres and Tier-2 cities.
Beyond Hyderabad, Air India Express will also introduce services connecting Aurangabad, Coimbatore, Jamnagar, Jodhpur and Madurai with major hubs including Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai. In addition, the airline plans to increase frequencies on several existing routes from Delhi to accommodate growing travel demand. Industry observers believe expanding regional aviation networks contributes to more balanced economic development by improving access to tourism, trade, education and healthcare. Enhanced connectivity also supports government efforts to strengthen multimodal transport infrastructure and improve mobility across the country. With services scheduled to begin in September, the new Hyderabad connection is expected to provide greater travel flexibility while further strengthening the city’s position within India’s evolving domestic aviation network.
