Hyderabad Circular Economy Research Gets Fresh Push

Hyderabad’s environmental technology ecosystem is set for a new research push after CSIR-Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (CSIR-IICT) and Re Sustainability Limited signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate on sustainable technology research, development and commercialisation.

The partnership will bring together CSIR-IICT’s scientific research capabilities and Re Sustainability’s experience in environmental infrastructure, waste management, resource recovery and circular economy solutions. The collaboration is intended to move promising technologies from research and pilot stages towards practical industrial applications. The two organisations will jointly explore technologies covering plastic waste recycling, waste-to-value solutions, resource recovery and sustainable materials. The programme will also include bio-based and green chemical processes, expanding the scope of research into alternatives that can reduce dependence on resource-intensive industrial practices. Industrial wastewater treatment and environmental remediation will form another important part of the collaboration. These technologies can help industries manage wastewater more effectively while reducing environmental impacts associated with untreated or poorly managed industrial discharge.

The partnership will also examine carbon capture, utilisation and decarbonisation technologies. As industries face increasing pressure to reduce emissions, such technologies could become increasingly relevant for sectors where reducing carbon output through conventional efficiency measures alone is difficult. A significant element of the collaboration will be pilot-scale validation. Testing technologies beyond laboratory conditions can help determine their technical performance, scalability and suitability for commercial deployment.
