Residential Welfare Associations (RWAs) across the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, Cyberabad Municipal Corporation and Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation limits have issued a security advisory after six suspected Cheddi gang members allegedly broke into a flat at Flotilla Apartments in Neknampur in the early hours of Monday.
The advisory urged apartment and villa management committees to strengthen surveillance along compound walls, particularly at locations that lack adequate lighting or CCTV coverage. It also called on security personnel to inspect boundary areas for dark spots, broken fencing and camera blind spots that could allow unauthorised entry.
According to the advisory, security arrangements in many residential communities remain focused mainly on the main gates. RWAs said offenders could instead use poorly monitored sections of a compound boundary to enter a community, commit theft and escape. Management committees were asked to identify such vulnerable points and install lighting and cameras wherever required.
Security teams were also advised to increase perimeter patrols, especially between 11 pm and 5 am. The recommendation extends surveillance beyond entrance gates to the full boundary of apartment complexes and villa communities, including areas that may be difficult to monitor from a security cabin.
Residents sought increased night police patrolling in Alkapur Township and neighbouring colonies. They specifically identified areas near the nala, lakeside stretches, isolated roads and other vulnerable entry points as locations requiring closer attention. The request places the reported break-in within a wider concern about access routes around residential communities, rather than treating security as a matter limited to individual flats.
The advisory asked residents to keep gates, doors and boundary fences secured and to avoid confronting people they consider suspicious. Residents were instead advised to alert the police immediately about suspicious movements and to share relevant CCTV footage promptly. The guidance also asked apartment committees and security staff to review existing surveillance arrangements and address gaps along the perimeter.
The reported incident has therefore prompted RWAs to combine resident-level precautions with changes to community security operations. The advisory’s immediate focus is on lighting, camera coverage, fencing, night patrols and faster information-sharing with the police in and around Neknampur, Alkapur Township and neighbouring colonies.
