HYDERABAD: Rajiv Gandhi International Airport has recorded strong passenger growth during the first quarter of the 2026–27 financial year, reinforcing Hyderabad’s position as one of India’s busiest aviation hubs. Rising passenger volumes reflect the city’s expanding economic activity, improving domestic and international connectivity, and growing importance as a regional gateway for business, tourism and investment.
The Hyderabad airport passenger traffic reached approximately 7.8 million travellers between April and June, averaging nearly 90,000 passengers every day. The latest figures place Hyderabad among the country’s top four airports by passenger volume, underscoring the city’s continued growth as a major aviation centre. Industry observers attribute the sustained increase to Hyderabad’s expanding technology sector, strong pharmaceutical industry, business travel demand and increasing domestic air connectivity. The airport also serves travellers from neighbouring states, strengthening its role as a regional transport hub beyond Telangana. While international passenger movement experienced some temporary challenges due to geopolitical developments in West Asia and evolving global travel patterns, domestic demand remained resilient. Aviation experts believe expanding domestic connectivity will continue to support overall passenger growth while helping airlines diversify their route networks.
The rise in Hyderabad airport passenger traffic mirrors broader economic trends across the metropolitan region. Growing investments in commercial real estate, Global Capability Centres (GCCs), education, healthcare and tourism have generated increased demand for air travel from both corporate and leisure passengers.
