Haryana Offers Free Land In Panchkula For NFSU Campuses
Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has offered free land in Panchkula for the establishment of both temporary and permanent campuses of the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU), Gandhinagar.
The proposal was formally communicated in a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, according to an official statement issued on Wednesday. The Haryana government had initially sought permission from the Ministry of Home Affairs to set up NFSU campuses in Panchkula in a letter dated November 15, 2022. Following the request, the ministry directed NFSU, Gandhinagar, to conduct a site assessment. A committee from the university subsequently inspected the proposed location and submitted its report to the Centre.
In his letter, Saini reiterated the state’s readiness to provide land for the project at no cost and urged the Union Home Ministry to expedite the approval process. He stated that the proposed institution would enhance educational infrastructure and expand career opportunities for Haryana’s youth. Sumit Misra, Additional Chief Secretary of Haryana’s Home Department, emphasised that the state is actively preparing to become the first in India to fully implement the provisions of the new criminal laws. He said this includes issuing operational guidelines, notifications, standard procedures, and strengthening human resources across police, prosecution, prisons, and judiciary departments. “The establishment of the NFSU campus in Panchkula will play a pivotal role in equipping students with education in advanced forensic and judicial sciences, especially under the reformed legal framework,” Misra added.
The proposed NFSU campuses are expected to align with Haryana’s broader strategy to modernise its law enforcement infrastructure and judicial processes.
