Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation Limited (CESC) has asked consumers in Mysuru, Mandya, Hassan, Kodagu and Chamarajanagar districts to submit the required information for the Gruha Jyothi scheme by October 31, as the utility works to complete verification and update beneficiary records.
CESC said information has been collected from 1,967,919 of the 2,429,607 consumers considered for verification across its service area, representing 81% progress. Consumers who have not yet submitted their details have been given an opportunity to complete the process through their local CESC office.
The utility said the exercise has been affected in cases where field staff found homes locked or vacant. Its progress report records 236,380 door-locked houses and 95,681 vacant houses. A further 7,041 cases have been rejected.
Including submitted records, locked homes, vacant homes and rejected cases, details for 2,307,021 cases have been recorded. CESC said this accounts for 94.95% of the 2,429,607 consumers considered for verification, although the information submission component itself stands at 81%.
Consumers who were unavailable when survey staff visited, including those whose homes were locked, have been asked to contact the CESC sub-division office responsible for their area. They must submit the required documents and complete the information collection process before the October 31 deadline.
The district-level figures show differences in progress across the CESC network. Kodagu has recorded the highest progress at 82.89%, followed by Hassan at 81.72%, Mandya at 81.78% and Chamarajanagar at 80.90%. Mysuru district has recorded 79.87% progress, the lowest among the five districts listed by the utility.
The verification exercise illustrates the administrative challenge of maintaining beneficiary records for a household electricity programme across a large and varied service area. Utility staff must account not only for consumers who submit information directly, but also for homes that are temporarily inaccessible, vacant properties and cases requiring rejection or further review.
CESC has urged consumers to cooperate so that the information update for Gruha Jyothi beneficiaries can be completed. The utility’s October 31 deadline is the next formal milestone for consumers who have not yet provided the required information through the field collection process.
