The Goa Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) has embarked on significant reforms aimed at revitalizing its industrial landscape and enhancing operational efficiency through strategic initiatives approved by its board.
In a pivotal move to streamline industrial operations, the GIDC board has given the green light to an Exit Support Scheme designed to facilitate the closure of 423 unutilised industrial units and plots across the state. This scheme, set to be formally launched in the coming weeks, aims to provide a structured exit route for sick and non-operational industrial entities, thereby clearing the way for their reintegration into productive use. According to GIDC officials, the Exit Support Scheme will categorize unutilised plots based on their current state—ranging from undeveloped land to fully constructed but non-operational units. This initiative not only seeks to optimize land utilization but also aligns with broader objectives of enhancing ease of doing business in Goa’s industrial sector.
In parallel, the board has approved a comprehensive digital transformation agenda for the GIDC. This includes the establishment of a dedicated IT team, implementation of a Geographic Information System (GIS) map for all industrial estates, and the adoption of a cloud server infrastructure. These technological upgrades aim to transition the GIDC towards a fully operational online platform by August, streamlining administrative processes and enhancing accessibility for stakeholders. Acknowledging the operational challenges faced by GIDC, particularly in space management, the board has sanctioned a three-year lease agreement for additional office space at Myles High corporate building in Patto, Panaji. This decision underscores GIDC’s commitment to optimizing internal resources amidst evolving operational demands. Furthermore, the board’s approval of the 7th Pay Commission arrears for employees reflects a proactive approach towards enhancing workforce welfare and morale within the organization.
However, the board deferred decisions on key proposals including the construction of a common effluent treatment plant for the Cuncolim industrial estate and the provision of employee accommodation within industrial plots. These deliberations underscore the complexity of balancing environmental concerns and industrial infrastructure development in Goa. Looking ahead, the implementation of these initiatives positions GIDC at the forefront of fostering sustainable industrial growth and operational excellence in Goa. By leveraging digital innovation and strategic policy interventions, GIDC aims to catalyse economic resurgence while ensuring responsible industrial practices aligning with global standards.
