Ghaziabad Traffic Plan Adds 800 Police, Bans Heavy Vehicles

Ghaziabad traffic police will restrict the entry of heavy vehicles into the city from November 5 to 12 and deploy more than 800 personnel at 24 identified congestion points to manage traffic during Diwali, Bhai Dooj and other festivals.

The Ghaziabad traffic plan has been prepared after analysing congestion-related complaints received through Dial-112 during last year’s festive period. The traffic police have identified markets, major intersections and other busy routes where vehicle pressure is expected to rise, according to Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Varun Kumar Singh.

Under the temporary arrangement, heavy vehicles will be diverted from Lal Kuan towards Bulandshahr. The police said the diversion is intended to reduce the movement of heavy vehicles on internal city roads and help keep traffic moving around markets and major junctions during the festival period.

Traffic personnel will work in two shifts under the supervision of 11 traffic inspectors. The deployment will include 128 sub-inspectors, 306 head constables, 356 constables and 23 women head constables and constables, taking the total planned deployment to 813 personnel.

Special monitoring will be carried out at locations including Vijay Nagar T-Point, ABES Cut, the DME Dasna approach, Lal Kuan, Anand Hospital, Appu Ghar Mall, Arya Farm House and Sajan Mor. Other points listed for deployment include Mukherjee Park, Chaudhary Mor, Turab Nagar, Ghanta Ghar, Hapur Tiraha, the new bus stand, the old bus stand, Mohan Nagar, Sector 62 and Chhijarsi. The full deployment will cover 24 locations.

Personnel at these points will be responsible for regulating vehicle movement, monitoring traffic conditions and responding when congestion begins to build. The police said the aim is to prevent traffic blockages from spreading across adjoining roads and to keep movement normal around shopping areas and key corridors.

The traffic police are also coordinating with the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation to manage the movement and parking of buses during the festive period. Discussions have been held with the regional manager of the Kaushambi roadways depot regarding bus operations and holding arrangements.

As part of the plan, roadways buses will be positioned in advance at identified hotspots, including Sector 62, Chhijarsi, Lal Kuan and the area in front of the Adhyatmik Nagar police outpost on National Highway 9. The arrangement is intended to keep buses available where demand rises while preventing unscheduled stopping and parking from adding to congestion.

The traffic police have said that no additional route diversions are currently required on other roads. However, officials may change traffic arrangements at specific locations if vehicle pressure increases or congestion develops during the festival period. The heavy-vehicle restriction and special deployment are scheduled to remain in place from November 5 through November 12.
