Ghaziabad Development Authority Eyes Mega Hub Projects

The Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) is strategising an ambitious plan to develop a medical city, sports city, and education hub within the city. This transformative proposal is expected to be presented at the upcoming GDA board meeting in the second week of July.

Currently in its nascent stages, the project has already garnered considerable attention. “The project is in an early phase, but definite plans are being formed. We have identified a private firm with significant expertise in such developments, previously engaged by the Lucknow Development Authority,” stated a GDA official.

Insiders within the GDA have disclosed that between 200 and 400 hectares of land are being scouted for these projects. Preferred locations include areas along the Hindon Elevated Road, Eastern Peripheral Road, and the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway. The strategic selection of these sites is influenced by Ghaziabad’s proximity to the national capital and the advantageous positioning near major transport routes, such as the Delhi Meerut Expressway, Eastern Peripheral Road, and the Delhi-Howrah rail line. This makes the area ideal for a logistics hub in the National Capital Region (NCR). These projects are to be integrated into the GDA’s Master Plan 2031.

In 2023, the Uttar Pradesh state government proposed creating a city logistics hub in seven districts, including Ghaziabad. As part of this initiative, 240 hectares of land in Kushaliya village and an additional 53.9 hectares in Bhojpur, both situated along the Delhi Meerut Expressway, were earmarked for the logistics hub. The GDA had commissioned the Rail India Technical and Economic Service (RITES) to develop a comprehensive plan for this logistics hub in alignment with the state government’s directives.

The proposed medical city, sports city, and education hub align with Ghaziabad’s strategic development vision. These projects are poised to leverage the city’s locational advantages, stimulating economic growth and enhancing infrastructure. The sports city aims to provide state-of-the-art facilities for various sports, promoting athletic excellence and potentially hosting major sporting events. The education hub is envisioned to attract top-tier educational institutions, fostering an environment of academic excellence and innovation. Meanwhile, the medical city will offer advanced healthcare services, positioning Ghaziabad as a leading centre for medical care.

This ambitious development plan underscores the GDA’s commitment to elevating Ghaziabad’s profile in the NCR. The integration of these projects into the Master Plan 2031 reflects a holistic approach to urban development, aiming to create a vibrant, sustainable, and economically robust city. The GDA’s proactive stance and strategic planning are expected to transform Ghaziabad into a pivotal centre for sports, education, and healthcare, driving growth and attracting investment in the region.
