Fire Breaks Out in Kurla’s Shivaji Nagar SRA Building
A fire broke out on Sunday evening in a 15-storey building located in the Kurla East area of suburban Mumbai, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) confirmed. The incident occurred at the Shivaji Nagar SRA building near Swastik Park on S.G. Barve Marg at approximately 7:18 PM.
The Mumbai Fire Brigade classified the blaze as a Level-1 fire, indicating it was a minor incident. According to the authorities, the fire was confined to the building’s electric duct, affecting wiring from the ground floor up to the 15th floor. No residents were reported trapped, and the building was evacuated as a precautionary measure. Upon receiving the alert, the Mumbai Fire Brigade swiftly deployed its team to the site. The response also included police officers, local BMC ward staff, and other civic officials, who coordinated efforts to ensure the fire was contained and prevented from spreading further.
Firefighters worked on-site to control the situation and bring the flames under control. Thankfully, no injuries or casualties have been reported so far, officials confirmed. The incident highlights the importance of stringent safety measures in high-rise buildings, particularly in densely populated areas like Kurla. While the immediate response of the Mumbai Fire Brigade and other civic authorities successfully averted a major disaster, the fire serves as a reminder of the need for regular maintenance of electrical systems and fire safety protocols in residential complexes. As firefighting operations conclude, an investigation is expected to follow, focusing on identifying the cause of the fire and evaluating whether fire safety regulations were adhered to within the building.
