Faridabad flyover plans have moved into the detailed project report stage after the Haryana government approved preparations for a proposed four-lane elevated corridor linking Number 3 Culvert with Dussehra Ground through Avantibai Chowk and ESIC Chowk. The project is intended to improve connections between the city’s eastern and western areas and reduce congestion at several busy junctions.
The Faridabad Metropolitan Development Authority has begun preparing the DPR and is planning a survey of the proposed route. The reported corridor will pass through or connect major junctions including Avantibai Chowk and ESIC Chowk, both identified as heavily trafficked parts of the city.
A separate section of the East-West project proposes a 1,600-metre elevated flyover between ESIC Chowk and Sainik Colony. The proposed link is intended to improve direct connectivity between Greater Faridabad and the NIT area, including the Sainik Colony side. At present, motorists travelling between these parts of the city have to use indirect routes through crossings such as Neelam, Bata and NHPC railway overbridges, before continuing towards Sector 12, Old Faridabad or Greater Faridabad.
According to the report, the absence of a direct road between the two areas forces commuters to take longer routes and encounter congestion at multiple points. The East-West project also includes a plan for a U-turn road to improve movement between the two sides of the city.
Seven flyover and underpass locations have been proposed under the wider project. These include a flyover over Badkhal village, another near the Sainik Colony turn connecting Gurugram Road with Badkhal Road, a flyover near Badkhal village and the lake, and a structure at Ankhir Chowk intended to connect the Ankhir and Gurugram sides. The report did not provide final designs, cost estimates or a construction schedule for the wider set of works.
FMDA has started the process of engaging a technical consultant for the DPR. The selected consultant will study the technical feasibility, design requirements, construction needs and overall viability of the proposed flyover. The DPR will determine the next steps for construction and help establish the final alignment and design.
K.S. Pathania, executive engineer at FMDA, said officials had inspected the junction on Saturday in connection with the design for the elevated flyover between Sainik Colony and ESIC Chowk. The inspection also examined possible obstructions that could affect construction. The project will proceed to further implementation decisions after the DPR and related technical assessments are completed.
