Faridabad Water Supply Shutdown to Hit 14 Areas for 30 Hours

Faridabad water supply will be disrupted across 14 sectors and neighbourhoods from 10 am on October 3 to 4 pm on October 4 because the Faridabad Metropolitan Development Authority will shift and reconnect a pipeline near the Northern Railway line and the Sohna-Ballabgarh Road.

The work will require the temporary shutdown of Reниwell Water Supply Line No. 1 for approximately 30 hours. The pipeline is being shifted because it runs beneath the railway line near Ballabgarh, where work is under way to widen the Ballabgarh-Sohna railway overbridge to four lanes.

According to the information issued by the FMDA, water supply will be affected in Sector 22, Sector 23, Sector 25, Sector 58, Sector 55, Gaunchi, Shaheed Park, JCB Chowk, Panchayat Bhawan, Jain Colony, Bhim Bagh, Subhash Colony, Uncha Gaon, Milk Plant and Prem Nagar.

FMDA Chief Engineer Vishal Bansal has appealed to residents in the affected areas to store sufficient drinking water in advance of the shutdown. The advisory is intended to help households manage the interruption while the pipeline connection and shifting work is carried out.

The disruption is linked to the interaction between two infrastructure systems: the regional drinking-water network and the railway overbridge project. Moving a water line located below or near a railway corridor requires a planned shutdown so that the existing connection can be altered and the replacement alignment brought into service. The supplied announcement did not specify whether water tankers would be deployed during the shutdown or provide a detailed restoration contingency plan.

The announcement also included an update on drainage infrastructure in Faridabad’s Ward 3. The municipal corporation plans to construct a reinforced-cement-concrete drain from Holi Chowk to the Gaunchi drain to improve the movement of rainwater through the area.

Preparatory work for the drain has begun, and construction is expected to start next month. The approximately two-foot-wide drain is estimated to cost Rs 36.98 lakh and is targeted for completion within four months. Officials said the width and gradient would be considered during construction to maintain a smooth flow of water.

Residents told the source that heavy rain has previously caused water to rise to knee level on the road between Holi Chowk and the Gaunchi drain. The flooding has affected pedestrians and motorists, with people sometimes having to travel through standing water. The proposed drain is expected to benefit about 10,000 people in the ward by carrying rainwater more systematically to the Gaunchi drain.

The two developments highlight separate but connected municipal concerns: maintaining continuity of essential water services during major infrastructure work and creating adequate drainage capacity in areas vulnerable to waterlogging. For the immediate shutdown, the FMDA’s current instruction is for residents in the listed areas to store water before the pipeline work begins at 10 am on October 3. The affected supply is scheduled to resume by 4 pm on October 4.
