Schneider Electric, a global leader in digital transformation and energy management, is spearheading the automation drive for India’s largest single-stage wastewater treatment plant in Delhi.
This monumental project, undertaken as part of the Namami Gange initiative, aims to revolutionise wastewater treatment and mitigate pollution in the Yamuna River. Constructed by SUEZ under the aegis of the Delhi Jal Board Yamuna Action Plan, the wastewater treatment plant boasts a colossal capacity to treat 564 million litres of sewage per day. This capacity is designed to cater to the needs of approximately 30 million residents of the national capital, thereby addressing a critical aspect of urban infrastructure.
Central to the plant’s operational efficiency is Schneider Electric’s IoT-enabled EcoStruxure platform, a sophisticated solution that ensures secure and efficient wastewater treatment processes. Leveraging the EcoStruxure Process Expert Automation platform, along with Altivar Process Drives, Altivar Soft Starters, Micom relays, and advanced MV & LV solutions, Schneider Electric has facilitated a seamless integration of electrical and automation systems within the plant. Collaborating closely with SUEZ, Schneider Electric has played a pivotal role in enhancing operational efficiency and reliability, thereby optimising the plant’s performance. SUEZ, leveraging advanced technologies tailored to local conditions, emphasises adherence to health standards and environmental conservation, thereby ensuring the protection of water resources and biodiversity.
One of the noteworthy features of the project is its focus on sustainability, with the plant generating around 50 per cent of its energy needs through biogas. This exemplifies the convergence of technological innovation and environmental stewardship in addressing pressing water management challenges. Schneider Electric’s partnership with SUEZ in automating Delhi’s mega wastewater treatment plant underscores a paradigm shift in water management practices.
