The Dwarka Expressway elevated road project in Gurugram has moved closer to implementation, with the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) preparing to issue a tender for a four-lane structure on the Southern Peripheral Road (SPR) at an estimated cost of ₹775 crore. The elevated link is planned to connect the Dwarka Expressway and Delhi-Jaipur Highway with the Gurugram-Sohna Highway.
The tender documents were prepared by GMDA last month and sent to the Haryana government for approval. An Infrastructure and Engineering Committee constituted by Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini is examining the documents. GMDA expects approval within three to four days and plans to issue the tender by next week, according to the report by Live Hindustan – NCR.
The project is intended to improve movement between major road corridors in Gurugram and make travel between Delhi-linked routes and the Gurugram-Sohna Highway more direct. The report also said the improved connections would ease travel on routes associated with movement towards the Delhi-Mumbai corridor, although the supplied material does not provide traffic projections or a detailed assessment of expected travel-time savings.
Under the plan, four-lane elevated roads will be built from the Dwarka Expressway and Delhi-Jaipur Highway towards the Gurugram-Sohna Highway. At ground level, the SPR is expected to retain three lanes in each direction, along with two-lane service roads on both sides. This arrangement is designed to separate through traffic from local access movements, although detailed construction phasing and traffic-management arrangements were not provided in the report.
A cloverleaf interchange is also planned at Vatika Chowk to connect the proposed elevated road with the elevated section of the Gurugram-Sohna Highway. GMDA expects to prepare the estimate for this component within two weeks before sending the tender documents to the Haryana government for approval.
The project follows an earlier tender issued in March that was cancelled because of deficiencies in the detailed project report (DPR). The new tender documents are therefore being reviewed before the authority proceeds with procurement. Once the contract is awarded, the elevated road is scheduled to be completed within 30 months.
GMDA Chief Engineer Praveen Chaudhary said the tender documents for the SPR elevated road were ready and would be issued after government approval. He said approval was expected the following week. GMDA is also planning another elevated road on Golf Course Extension Road to connect the Gurugram-Faridabad Road with the Gurugram-Sohna Highway. Separately, the authority plans to maintain green areas along both sides of the main road between Bakhtawar Chowk and Subhash Chowk. The work is estimated to cost about ₹3 crore. Its tender is expected next month, with completion planned within four months and maintenance responsibility assigned to the contractor for 12 months.
