Dwarka Expressway Crash Kills 3 Workers at Road Worksite

A Dwarka Expressway accident killed three workers and critically injured another after a car collided with a construction worksite near Ram Chowk early Thursday, according to Gurugram Police. The driver, identified as Vedant Khanna, a third-year Economics Honours student at Delhi University’s St Stephen’s College, was also injured and is receiving treatment.

Police said the crash occurred between 1.50 am and 2.30 am near Ram Chowk as a group of workers installed iron fencing on the central median. A white car travelling from the Delhi side struck the worksite, hit the workers and then collided with a pickup truck before coming to a halt after climbing onto the median.

The deceased were identified as Bijender Singh, 58, his cousin Pappu Singh, 55, and site contractor Satish Chand, 43. The three men, along with the injured worker Ram Kumar, 28, were from Sarwana village in Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr district. They had arrived in Gurugram two days earlier and were living together in rented accommodation in the nearby Bajghera area.

Ram Kumar is being treated in the intensive care unit of a private hospital. The other injured person, Khanna, was first taken to a local hospital and later shifted to a private facility, the report said.

According to a complaint filed by Jitendra Kumar, the brother of the deceased contractor, the work area had been enclosed with safety equipment including reflective warning boards, barricades and trestles. The workers were reportedly pouring concrete into the foundation at the base of the median when the car hit the safety barrier and struck them.

The crash was reported by survivors and other workers at the site. Police and ambulances reached the location and took the injured to a civil hospital, where Bijender Singh and Pappu Singh were declared dead. Satish Chand died later that night.

An FIR was registered on the complaint of Jitendra Kumar, and the vehicles involved in the crash have been seized. The case includes multiple serious charges against Khanna, although the report does not specify the sections invoked.

Workers and the complainant alleged that the driver appeared to be under the influence of alcohol or another substance. Gurugram Police said that the allegation could be confirmed only after forensic examination. Police public relations officer Sandeep Turan said blood samples had been collected to determine whether the driver was under the influence of alcohol or any other intoxicant.

The investigation will now focus on the forensic results, the circumstances of the collision and the safety arrangements at the worksite. Police have not announced when the blood-test findings or any further action in the case will be made public.
