Gurugram Green Crackers Restricted to 23 Sites Ahead of Diwali

Gurugram authorities have restricted the sale of green crackers to 23 designated locations and allowed their use only during two daily time windows on November 7 and 8, with more than 4,300 police personnel deployed across the city for Diwali security.

Deputy Commissioner Uttam Singh said only licensed traders would be permitted to sell green crackers at the identified locations until November 6. Sales from any other place will not be allowed. Police patrol teams will check the sealed packaging and QR codes of crackers at the authorised shops.

Residents will be allowed to burst only green crackers from 6 am to 7 am and from 8 pm to 10 pm on November 7 and 8. The administration has also prohibited the sale and use of barium-based and other banned crackers. Officials said legal action would be taken against violations.

A 300-metre area around hospitals, nursing homes, old-age homes and educational institutions has been designated as a no-cracker zone. Crackers cannot be used within these areas, adding a location-based restriction to the sale and timing rules.

The locations identified for sales include the ground near Vatika Chowk in Badshahpur, the open ground in Sector 9, the stadium in Babupur village, the HSVP ground in Sector 5, the Gaushala ground near Mahavir Chowk, Leisure Valley ground in Sector 29, the area opposite the tehsil office in Sector 2 of IMT Manesar, the site near the power house in Garhi Harsaru, and community centres in Chandu and Baghnaki villages.

Other sites listed by the administration include gram panchayat land near the toll tax point in Sancholi village in Sohna, gram panchayat land near Nimoth Road, gram panchayat land opposite the underpass in Ghamroj, the government senior secondary school ground in Bhora Kalan, the sports ground in Hajipur village in Farrukhnagar, Mansaram Vatika in Taj Nagar and the exercise facility on Sultanpur Road in Kaliyawas. The report identifies 23 authorised locations in total, while the locations listed in the supplied notice account for 17 named sites.

Gurugram Police said more than 4,300 personnel, including regular and additional forces, would be deployed at identified and sensitive points. Special arrangements are planned for Sadar Bazaar, shopping malls, cinemas, railway stations, bus stands and religious places, with foot patrols, motorcycle patrols and PCR vehicles used for monitoring.

Plain-clothes personnel will be deployed to deter offences including harassment of women, snatching and pickpocketing. Police teams will also conduct checks at hotels, guest houses, paying guest facilities, dharamshalas, pubs and bars, while monitoring gambling, betting and illegal cracker storage facilities.

Traffic personnel will be positioned on major roads and in markets during the festival. Police said action would be taken against drunk driving, riding without helmets and triple riding. All deputy commissioners of police have been directed to supervise security arrangements in their respective areas, while residents have been asked to use green crackers only at the permitted times and report suspicious activity immediately.
