DUSU Election Results 2026 gave the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad three of the four central panel posts, while independent candidate Deepanshu Shokeen won the vice-president’s position after 20 rounds of counting at Delhi University on Saturday.
ABVP’s Yash Dabas won the president’s post with 24,576 votes, defeating National Students’ Union of India candidate Vijay Shankar Meena, who polled 22,523 votes. The margin was 2,053 votes.
Riya Chhawdi secured the secretary’s post for ABVP with 21,650 votes, ahead of NSUI’s Namrata Chaudhary, who received 14,869 votes. Lakshya Raj Singh won the joint secretary’s post with 16,615 votes. Samajwadi Chhatra Sabha candidate Vishesh Yadav polled 15,778 votes, while NSUI candidate Gopal Choudhary received 15,206 votes.
Shokeen, a former NSUI member who contested as an independent after being denied the party’s ticket, won the vice-president’s post with 30,615 votes. He defeated ABVP’s Ishu Maurya, who received 16,910 votes, and NSUI’s Vir Chatrath, who polled 4,313 votes. His victory prevented ABVP from winning all four central panel posts.
The election recorded 40.46 per cent voter turnout, higher than the 29.7 per cent recorded in 2024 and 39.45 per cent in 2025, according to the report. The campaign focused on student welfare, campus facilities, hostel accommodation and safety. These issues gained prominence after the collapse of a paying guest building in Satya Niketan earlier this month in which Delhi University students died.
Dabas said after his victory that safety audits of paying guest accommodations and hostels would be among his first priorities. He also mentioned the construction of new hostels, a girls’ hostel in every college and a dedicated student helpline. Shokeen said his priority would be hostels, while also raising student rights, infrastructure, fee increases, National Education Policy implementation and transparency during his campaign.
The results were announced amid extensive security and traffic arrangements at the university’s North Campus. More than 2,000 police and paramilitary personnel were deployed during counting, with security divided into five zones and 23 sectors. Police teams, foot patrols, motorcycle units and PCR vans were positioned across the campuses.
Delhi Traffic Police had warned that movement around North Campus could be affected between 9 am and 6 pm on Saturday. University officials also urged winning candidates and their supporters not to hold victory rallies on or outside the campus, citing Delhi High Court orders concerning campus defacement and law and order. The restriction was to remain in force after the declaration of results.
