A tipper truck driver was killed after his vehicle rammed a coal-laden truck that had reportedly been parked for three days following a breakdown on the Dumka-Pakur main road in Jharkhand, prompting police to register an FIR against the stationary truck’s owner.
The collision took place around 5am on Saturday near Alubera, under the jurisdiction of Kathikund police station. The deceased was identified as Bhanu Thakur, 31, a resident of Torai Bipatpur village in Pakur district.
According to the report, Thakur was driving the tipper truck from Pachwara towards Dumka with a consignment of coal when it struck the rear of the stationary vehicle. The impact mangled the tipper’s cabin and left Thakur with fatal injuries.
The coal truck had broken down at the location three days before the crash and remained on the road, the report said. The account did not specify whether the vehicle had been moved, cordoned off or provided with warning signs during that period.
Balram Singh, officer-in-charge of Kathikund police station, said the body was handed over to Thakur’s family after a post-mortem examination. Police have instituted an FIR against the owner of the stationary truck.
The incident brings attention to the risks created when disabled heavy vehicles remain on a public road, particularly on routes used for the movement of coal and other freight. In this case, the parked truck’s reported presence for three days became a direct factor in a fatal collision, although the police investigation will determine the circumstances and responsibility in greater detail.
The Dumka-Pakur road links areas associated with coal transport in the Santhal Pargana region and is used by loaded trucks as well as other road users. The crash involved two commercial vehicles, with the stationary truck carrying coal when it was struck from behind.
The available account does not state whether visibility, road lighting, vehicle markings, traffic speed or other conditions contributed to the collision. It also does not specify the next investigative steps beyond the registration of the FIR.
Police action has so far included the post-mortem process, the handover of the body to the family and the filing of a case against the owner of the stationary truck. Further details are expected to emerge as the investigation into the fatal collision proceeds.
