Dombivli Traffic Crackdown Targets Four Autorickshaws Blocking Roads

Dombivli traffic enforcement intensified in the eastern Ramnagar area after police registered separate criminal cases against four autorickshaw drivers accused of obstructing public passenger movement by parking on the road. The action was reported from the Rajaji Road area and follows a wider police drive across Kalyan-Dombivli municipal limits.

According to a report by Loksatta – Thane, the autorickshaws were allegedly being parked in the middle of the road while drivers waited for passengers. Police said the practice was creating an obstruction for public transport and other road users. The cases were registered at Ramnagar police station.

The report gives details of one of the four cases. Shukruddin Mastan Mulla, 28, a resident of the Sahakar Nagar-Ayregaon area of eastern Dombivli, was allegedly operating near the ticket window outside Dombivli East railway station. Police said he had parked his autorickshaw on the public road in the morning, at a location where there was no designated autorickshaw stand, in a manner that obstructed traffic while he carried passengers.

A patrol team from Ramnagar police station stopped Mulla at the location. The complaint was filed by police constable Vijay Bagul, who questioned whether the spot was authorised for passenger transport and whether the driver had the right to block the road, the report said. Police subsequently registered a case against Mulla for obstructing public passenger traffic.

The report did not provide the names or individual circumstances of the other three drivers booked in the latest action. It also did not specify the legal sections applied in the four cases or state whether any vehicles had been seized, towed or fined.

The action highlights a recurring problem around railway stations and busy road corridors, where the absence or inadequate availability of designated autorickshaw stands can push passenger vehicles onto public roads. In such locations, vehicles waiting for passengers can reduce the usable carriageway and interfere with the movement of buses, private vehicles, pedestrians and emergency traffic. The available report, however, does not establish whether additional stands or designated pick-up arrangements are planned in the Ramnagar area.

Loksatta – Thane reported that police registered cases against more than 500 autorickshaw drivers for obstructing public transport across Kalyan and Dombivli municipal limits during the past year. The figure indicates that the latest action is part of a continuing enforcement drive rather than an isolated incident. The report did not provide a breakdown by location, offence, outcome or the number of repeat violations.

The latest cases were registered by Ramnagar police after the patrol team intervened at the road and railway-station area. Further action will depend on the police process in the four cases.
