Dhanbad Traffic Drive Seizes 30 Vehicles, Issues Rs 5 Lakh in Challans

Dhanbad traffic police seized 30 vehicles and issued challans worth around Rs 5 lakh during a citywide enforcement drive on Monday, targeting wrong-side driving, illegal parking, missing documents and other road violations. Police also initiated action against six drivers who were found operating vehicles without valid licences.

The drive was led by trainee officer Ankit Sinha and involved DSP (traffic) Rohit Kumar Saw, along with other traffic officers and police personnel. Enforcement teams conducted checks across several areas of Dhanbad as part of a campaign aimed at improving traffic discipline and compliance with road safety requirements.

According to the police, motorists were penalised for parking in no-parking zones, failing to carry mandatory vehicle documents, driving on the wrong side and committing other traffic violations. The action covered different categories of vehicles and was not limited to private motorists.

Auto-rickshaw and e-rickshaw drivers were also checked during the campaign. Police examined drivers accused of negligent driving, an issue that officers linked to unsafe movement and disruption on busy city stretches. The drive resulted in the seizure of 30 vehicles, although the police report did not specify the vehicle categories or the duration of each seizure.

Saw said the enforcement campaign was intended to improve traffic discipline, ensure compliance with road safety norms and help prevent accidents. He said violations including driving without a licence, wrong-side driving and improper parking disrupt traffic movement and increase accident risks, particularly on busy stretches of the city.

The action highlights the role of routine enforcement in managing road use in Dhanbad, where traffic police must address both moving violations and the misuse of road space for parking. The reported challans covered a range of offences, while the police also took separate action against drivers operating without valid licences.

Police said similar drives would continue across the district. They added that strict action would be taken against repeat offenders and motorists involved in serious violations. The next enforcement campaigns are expected to extend the checks beyond the areas covered in Monday’s drive.
