Delhi Women Need Pink Saheli Card For Free Bus Travel
Delhi is transitioning its free bus travel system for women from paper-based pink tickets to a smart card model from 1 August, marking a shift towards digital management of public transport benefits. The move affects millions of daily commuters and aims to create a more transparent system for tracking subsidised mobility services across the capital.
Under the updated system, women passengers using Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) and cluster buses will need a Pink Saheli Smart Card to access free travel benefits. Authorities have stated that more than 17 lakh women have already obtained the card, while registration facilities remain available across designated centres in the city. The change is part of a broader move towards digitising public transport operations, where passenger records, usage patterns and subsidy distribution can be managed through technology.
