Delhi recorded its lowest September minimum temperature in 18 years on Tuesday, with the mercury falling to 21 degrees Celsius, according to the India Meteorological Department data cited in the report. The reading was 2.3 degrees below the normal level and brought cooler morning and evening conditions to the capital.
The temperature was the lowest recorded in September since 6 September 2008, when Delhi registered a minimum of 20.8 degrees Celsius. The Ridge area was the coldest part of the city, recording 16.9 degrees Celsius, or six degrees below normal.
Other parts of Delhi also recorded below-normal temperatures. Palam recorded a minimum of 19.7 degrees Celsius, which was 3.8 degrees below normal. Lodhi Road recorded 20.4 degrees Celsius, while Aya Nagar recorded 20.6 degrees Celsius. The city had also recorded a minimum of 21 degrees Celsius on the previous Sunday.
Delhi’s maximum temperature on Tuesday was 32.4 degrees Celsius, 2.3 degrees below normal. Relative humidity ranged between 55% and 94%, according to the report. The cooler conditions were accompanied by mild sunshine during the day and a noticeable chill in the morning and evening.
The weather department has forecast no rain in Delhi over the next five days, with clear skies expected. On Wednesday, the maximum temperature is likely to remain between 32 and 34 degrees Celsius, while the minimum is expected to be between 20 and 22 degrees Celsius.
September’s average maximum temperature so far has been 34 degrees Celsius, while the average minimum has been 25.5 degrees Celsius. The city received 79.7 millimetres of rain over four days during the month, around 35% below the normal September rainfall of 122.8 millimetres. The forecast indicates that Delhi will continue to experience dry, clear and relatively pleasant weather in the coming days.
