Delhi Traffic Police issued 4,712 challans during a two-day enforcement drive linked to the BRICS summit, targeting dangerous driving, no-entry violations and driving under the influence of alcohol across key routes in the capital.
The special campaign was conducted by the Northern Range of the Delhi Traffic Police on September 11 and 12. The operation was intended to support smoother traffic movement, maintain road safety and prevent disruptions on important traffic corridors during the summit.
According to the traffic police, dangerous driving accounted for 335 of the challans issued during the campaign. Another 308 challans were issued for violations of no-entry restrictions, while 88 cases involved drunken driving.
The enforcement drive was carried out on the directions of Dr Sachin Kumar Singhal, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic, Northern Range. Traffic personnel were instructed to focus on violations considered directly linked to road safety and traffic discipline.
The Northern Range covers major roads and traffic corridors where maintaining predictable movement is particularly important during high-security events. The police said the campaign was aimed at regulating traffic and taking action against motorists whose violations could affect safety or obstruct movement.
The enforcement action comes as Delhi manages heightened traffic requirements during the BRICS summit. The traffic police said strict action against violations would continue during the summit to maintain smooth, safe and uninterrupted movement on key routes and to deter motorists from breaking traffic rules.
