Delhi Traffic Police has announced traffic restrictions and diversions in Central Delhi from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday for a proposed INDIA bloc rally at Ramlila Maidan, warning that movement on several major roads will be affected during the gathering.
The advisory identifies diversion points at Netaji Subhash Marg T-Point, Rajghat, Delhi Gate, ITO A-Point, Ajmeri Gate Red Light, Ranjeet Singh Flyover at Barakhamba Road, Bhavbhuti Marg–DDU Marg Red Light, Jhandewalan Roundabout, Turkman Gate and Mirdard Chowk.
Traffic movement is likely to be affected on BSZ Marg between ITO and Delhi Gate, JLN Marg between Rajghat and Delhi Gate and between Guru Nanak Chowk and Ajmeri Gate, and Aruna Asaf Ali Road between Ajmeri Gate and Hamdard Chowk, Turkman Gate and Delhi Gate. Restrictions or regulation will also apply on Minto Road, DGB Road, the Ranjeet Singh Flyover towards Turkman Gate, W-Point, Barakhamba Road towards Mandi House Roundabout and Sikandra Road, KG Marg–Firoz Shah Road and Chelmsford Road.
The advisory also lists regulated stretches between Guru Nanak Chowk and Kamla Market Roundabout, Kamla Market Roundabout and Hamdard Chowk, Hamdard Chowk and Turkman Gate, and Turkman Gate and Guru Nanak Chowk. The movement of Delhi Transport Corporation buses on BSZ Marg, the full stretch from Rajghat to JLN Marg, DGB Road and Minto Road will be regulated depending on prevailing traffic conditions.
Passengers travelling to New Delhi Railway Station have been given alternate routes. Those approaching from the DGB Road side have been advised to use Chelmsford Road, the Outer Circle of Connaught Place, Minto Road and Bhavbhuti Marg to reach the station. Commuters from East Delhi should take ITO, DDU Marg and Bhavbhuti Marg to reach the Ajmeri Gate side.
If DDU Marg is disrupted, passengers can use the route through ITO Red Light, W-Point, Sikandra Road, Connaught Place, Paharganj and Chelmsford Road. The route guidance is particularly relevant to rail passengers because the restrictions cover roads connecting central traffic corridors with the station’s Ajmeri Gate side.
Delhi Traffic Police has advised commuters to avoid unnecessary travel towards Astha Kunj Park, Nehru Place and adjoining roads during the programme. Motorists have been asked not to park on roadsides or in unauthorised areas near the venue, to use public transport—preferably the Metro—follow traffic signs and instructions from traffic personnel, and allow additional time for their journeys.
