Delhi Traffic Police has announced traffic restrictions, diversions and parking arrangements in parts of the capital on Tuesday, 15 September, because of the India-Afghanistan T20 match at Arun Jaitley Stadium and a public protest near Arjan Garh Metro station on MG Road.
The restrictions around the stadium will come into effect from 2 pm, according to the advisory reported by Delhi Traffic Police. Commuters have been asked to avoid travelling through the match-affected area during peak hours, plan journeys in advance and use alternative routes.
The India-Afghanistan T20 match is scheduled to be held at Arun Jaitley Stadium on 15 September. Traffic movement around the stadium is expected to be regulated through restrictions, diversions and designated parking arrangements. Drivers heading to the venue have been advised to use only the specified parking areas and designated taxi pick-up and drop-off points.
The separate public protest near Arjan Garh Metro station is expected to affect traffic on MG Road. The traffic police has advised motorists to avoid the affected stretch wherever possible and follow the directions of personnel deployed on the road, as well as diversion signage.
For travel between Gurugram and Mehrauli, the advisory lists an alternative route through NH-48, Mahipalpur and Andheria Mor. Vehicles travelling from Gurugram to Mehrauli can use Gurugram, NH-48, Mahipalpur, Andheria Mor and then proceed towards Mehrauli. Drivers travelling from Mehrauli to Gurugram have been advised to follow the reverse route through Andheria Mor, Mahipalpur and NH-48.
The advisory also asks commuters using MG Road to consider the Metro wherever possible and keep additional time for their journeys. The guidance is aimed at limiting congestion on routes likely to experience increased traffic because of the match-related movement and the protest near Arjan Garh.
Delhi Traffic Police has appealed to road users to comply with traffic rules and cooperate with personnel managing the affected corridors. Travellers have also been asked to monitor real-time updates through the traffic police website and its Facebook, X and Instagram accounts.
