A nine-year-old girl died after she suddenly collapsed inside her classroom at Lovely Public School in Delhi’s Mayur Vihar on Wednesday morning, with police examining CCTV footage and other evidence as part of an ongoing investigation.
According to police information reported by Live Hindustan, a PCR call was received at around 10 am stating that a Class 3 student had been brought to Malik Radix Hospital in Vinod Nagar. The child was reportedly already dead by the time she reached the hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
Police reached the school after receiving information about the incident and examined footage from the premises. The CCTV recording reportedly shows the girl returning to her classroom after being outside for some time. She stood near the classroom entrance for a short period before appearing to feel unwell and falling to the floor.
The report said other students were present in the classroom when the girl collapsed. A teacher arrived and attempted to lift her and seat her on a chair. As the child remained unconscious, the teacher was also seen trying to stimulate her chest with her hand. Several people gathered around the student before she was taken to hospital.
Police said no complaint had been received in connection with the incident at the time of the report. Officers are investigating the circumstances surrounding the child’s sudden collapse and death. The child’s body has been sent for post-mortem examination.
As part of the inquiry, police are expected to question the girl’s parents and school officials and record their statements. Investigators are examining the CCTV footage along with other available evidence. The post-mortem examination is expected to provide further information for the investigation, but the supplied report does not establish a medical cause of death.
The incident places attention on how schools respond to sudden medical emergencies involving children, including the speed of first aid, access to emergency medical support and communication with families. However, the police investigation is still underway, and no allegation of negligence or wrongdoing has been established in the supplied information.
The immediate official steps are the post-mortem examination, recording of statements from the family and school authorities, and review of CCTV footage and other evidence. Police have not reported any complaint in the case so far.
