Gusty winds of 30 to 40 kmph are expected on Saturday and Sunday, along with lightning and rain. The combination could affect road travel, outdoor activity and local urban movement, particularly during periods of reduced visibility or sudden showers. The forecast does not specify the amount of rain expected in individual parts of the city.
According to the report, the weather change is linked to a cyclonic circulation in the lower atmosphere over northwestern Uttar Pradesh and adjoining areas. The system is expected to influence conditions over Delhi after the monsoon’s withdrawal.
The forecast comes after a warm and humid Thursday in the capital. Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 35.7 degrees Celsius, 1.4 degrees above normal, while the minimum temperature was 25.9 degrees Celsius, 2 degrees above normal. Relative humidity during the day ranged from 87 per cent to 53 per cent.
Friday is expected to see partly cloudy conditions along with periods of strong sunshine before the three-day spell begins. The expected fall in temperature during the rainy period may provide some relief from the recent heat and humidity.
For the city’s transport and public agencies, the forecast places attention on short-duration operational risks typically associated with rain and strong winds, including slippery roads, water accumulation and disruptions to outdoor work. The report, however, does not identify any specific road, drainage network or public service expected to be affected.
