The Delhi rain alert has been issued for Tuesday, with the India Meteorological Department forecasting isolated heavy rainfall across Delhi, Haryana and Chandigarh, along with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds in parts of the region.
The forecast covers September 15 and comes as several parts of the country are expected to receive heavy or very heavy rainfall. The IMD has said that heavy rain is likely over Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi and Punjab, while isolated heavy rain may also occur in East Rajasthan.
For Delhi-NCR, the weather system is expected to bring isolated heavy rainfall on Tuesday. The IMD has also forecast thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds over parts of the region. Rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is likely to remain fairly widespread to widespread over Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi and Punjab from September 16 to 17.
The forecast places the Delhi-NCR warning within a wider spell of active monsoon weather. Very heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places over Konkan and Goa, the Gujarat region, and Saurashtra and Kutch. Gujarat, Konkan and Goa and Saurashtra and Kutch are expected to receive fairly widespread to widespread rainfall on Tuesday, with thunderstorms and lightning likely over parts of Gujarat and Saurashtra and Kutch.
The IMD has also forecast heavy rain in several other regions. Odisha may receive isolated heavy rainfall on Tuesday, with heavy rain expected to continue through September 17. Isolated heavy rain is also likely over West Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala and Mahe, while Madhya Maharashtra may also receive heavy rain.
In northern India, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan and Muzaffarabad are likely to receive fairly widespread to widespread rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. Chhattisgarh and Vidarbha may also see fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning, while Jharkhand is expected to receive isolated to scattered rainfall with similar conditions.
Across eastern and northeastern India, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim are likely to receive fairly widespread to widespread rainfall. Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya and the other northeastern states are also expected to remain wet, with isolated heavy rain and thunderstorms possible in parts of the region.
Southern states are likely to see rain over Rayalaseema, South Interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and North Interior Karnataka. Kerala and Mahe may receive fairly widespread to widespread rainfall, while isolated heavy rain is possible over Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala and Mahe. Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds may affect parts of the southern peninsula.
The IMD said rainfall is expected to remain active across several parts of the country over the next few days, with heavy rain continuing across parts of northwest, central, eastern, northeastern, western and southern India. Several regions may also experience thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds during this period.
